Base manager Yvan Halsberghe welcomes you to Nieuwpoort. Nieuwpoort is a fishing harbor and pleasurecraft port. It has an overwhelming seafood market, with morning catches from the North Sea and a wealth of fresh fish and seafood restaurants. The old town has a market in the square on Thursday afternoons. There are several parks with tennis courts, a sports hall, swimming pool and mini golf.

If you are going to be arriving at the base late, you will need to inform the base directly or the general sales office where you booked. When you arrive at the base there will be a note on the reception door informing you where your boat is. The boat will be left open with the lights on for you to stay on board that night. The base staff will do the full briefing the following morning.

1.56km from the base there is a UNIC, a supermarket for all provisions (also fresh bread, meat and vegetables etc)
The town center of Nieuwpoort is approx 2km from the base and has several shops, restaurants and cafes etc. Details for the essential shops can be obtained by calling the base prior to arrival.

In Belgium most of the locks and bridges are manned. Some of the bridge keepers operate several bridges and may not be on their bridge at the time of your arrival. To get around Brugge, you have to get in touch by phone with the people who operate the whole system of bridges and locks around Brugge from a cental control.
If you do not have your own mobile phone or have a phone, which does not workabroad, you can rent one at the base.

The base will supply the phone with cards and the credit on the card is checked at departure and arrival. You will be asked to pay on return for what has been used.
Nieuwpoort accepts the following credit cards for payment of Security/Fuel Deposit, Damage Waiver and Optional Extras: Visa, Mastercard
Please Note: In Belgium you can pay with credit cards in restaurants, hotels, shops and some of the big supermarket chains, but not in smaller supermarkets and grocery stores.
Fishing is allowed. A Fishing Permit is required (must be 16 or over) and can be purchased from the local post office.
