In Belgium most of the locks and bridges are manned. Some of the bridge keepers operate several bridges and may not be on their bridge at the time of your arrival. To get around Brugge, you have to get in touch by phone with the people who operate the whole system of bridges and locks around Brugge from a central control.

If you do not have your own mobile phone or have a phone, which does not work abroad, you can rent one at the base.
