This is our 8th time to use Emerald Star over the last ten years. We knew what to expect on our holiday and hod no major issues with the exception of discovering we can no longer access the fuel tank on the boat. This proved to be quite a surprise for us as nobody pointed this out prior to our departure from Carrick. We discovered the issue when we pulled in for fuel at Rooskey, as we have done during all previous trips. We were advised by the girl working the pumps that we required a key to fuel our boat. I contacted the Emerald Star office and was advised by the manager, John, the company had changed its policy on allowing boat users access to the fuel tank. He said that they had issues with people putting water into the fuel tank. I accepted this could happen, it never happened in our eight years! I inquired as to why there was no key on the boat for the fuel tank as would be normal with hiring a car. I then discovered the only way of filling the fuel tank was to purchase the fuel from Emerald at €1.60 p/lt. The fuel was available to me at Rooskey for €1.14 p/lt. The boat required 100 lts, clearly a significant difference in price. On return to Carrick I had a long discussion with John and we agreed a suitable outcome. I also reported that the boat could have been much cleaner when we took delivery of it. There was also a small problem with the toilet system on board, this resulted in a bad odor being present at various times of the day, even when toilets were not in use. John agreed to check out the system when we handed back the boat.
Great time had, cruised down river and back up again. Good fun stags weekend (3 nights)

We enjoyed the time with family, we hired 3 boats, 18 people in total.
We enjoyed the scenery and the towns and villages along the way. It was great fun going through the locks and lakes.

worst experience of my life, we went on our cruise in April, the windows on the boat were broken and rain kept coming on top of kids in bed, this was in all rooms, even with heating on the boat was freezing, we booked a five night cruise and had to give up after one night as the kids hated it, complained to lady in office at carrick on shannon and she really didnt care to listen to us will never use emerald star again

We started off going up the waterway towards Belturbot but decided to stay in the river where navigation was less arduous and there appeared to be more wildlife. We got as far as Boyle on Lough Key and spent two nights at the Lough Key Forest Park
What we liked best was the wildlife, particularly the water fowl, and the forest in the Forest Park. It was such a pleasure just to be afloat and to gain skill as we went along in handeling the boat.
