Rent a boat in England and explore beyond the waters…

A canal boat holiday in England is a relaxing and memorable way to explore the country’s beautiful waterways, but why not extend your adventure? After your boat hire, or just before you begin your canal cruise, there’s plenty more to see nearby. Book a hotel, hire a car, and take some extra time to enjoy the rich history, culture, and scenery just beyond the water.

Here are a few great destinations to visit during your boat stay in England:

Oxford

While many enjoy canal boat hire routes towards Henley and Windsor, heading in the other direction leads you to historic Oxford. Perfect for a few days before or after your boating break, this world-famous university city is known for its dreaming spires, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. Tour the Radcliffe Camera, explore Oxford Castle, or relax in the tranquil botanical gardens. With museums, markets, and even an Alice in Wonderland-themed shop, Oxford is a must-visit on any extended canal boat holiday.

London

Although our canal boat hire routes don’t reach central London, the capital is just a quick train journey away, so why not add a city break to your trip? From the iconic sights of Westminster, the bright lights of the West End theatres and the trendy markets of Shoreditch, there’s plenty to see and do.; A city break to London is the perfect urban contrast to your peaceful boat accommodation on the water.

South Downs National Park

Just over an hour from our cruising region lies South Downs National Park, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the perfect accompaniment to a canal boat holiday in England. Take a mainline train from London to Winchester or Eastbourne and enjoy rolling hills, scenic walking routes, and charming countryside villages. It’s a fantastic way to stretch your legs and soak in even more of England’s natural beauty before or after your boat hire adventure.

Let your canal boat holiday be the start of something even bigger. From countryside escapes to city breaks, the best of England is just around the corner!

Review of a boating holiday in England…

“Brilliant weekend! Loved it! Great fun on the boat navigating the waterways and enjoying the pace of life on the river. Wonderful way to see this area of England. We had a wonderful time on the Tango. It was a comfortable boat and we really enjoyed going along the waterways and through locks, having BBQ’s on the side of the river and jumping in for a dip to cool off. Got the hang of boating really quickly and loved it.”
