Do this as soon as you can- Some of the most scenic boating in the world
The boats are in great shape and easy to operate. (We have rented boats in many locations) However, the reason for the 5 Star rating is the management and staff of both the Peterborough and Smith’s Falls facilities. I can’t give high enough praise to the manager, Veronica, the technical staff and the cleaners.
We did not have any mechanical issues with our boat, but when others did, the staff did everything in their power to make things right. I know of one Technician who drove an hour and a half to re-set an inverter.
Amazing boating experience
Staff were great all round. everything was catered for. Lovely atmosphere. Thank you too to Aidan for showing us the ropes. Boats were amazing and extra options like late check in/out, barbecue etc really appreciated as options. Left the holiday feeling great after an amazing experience overall. All other family members loved it too. Highly recommend

A Wonderful Way to Experience the Scottish Highlands
Our Le Boat journey along the Caledonian Canal was one of the most wonderful and relaxing ways we have ever experienced Scotland.
From the moment we boarded our boat at Laggan, we knew we were in for something special. Travelling through the Caledonian Canal gave us the opportunity to slow down and really appreciate the magnificent Scottish Highlands — beautiful lochs, mountains disappearing into the mist, little villages, historic locks and scenery that seemed to change around every bend.
We have visited Scotland before and have always loved its beauty and history, but seeing it from the water gave us a completely different perspective. There was something very peaceful about waking in the morning surrounded by the Highlands, enjoying breakfast on the boat and then deciding where the day’s journey would take us.
Learning to handle the boat and navigate the locks was all part of the adventure. We soon settled into the rhythm of life on the canal, meeting people along the way and enjoying the friendliness and humour of the lock keepers and fellow travellers.
The boat became our little home for two weeks and gave us the freedom to explore at our own pace. Some days were about cruising and enjoying the scenery; on others we stopped and explored the towns, villages and attractions along the way. Even the Scottish weather added to the experience — sunshine, mist, clouds and rain somehow all belong in the Highlands and make the scenery even more beautiful.
One of the things we loved most was simply having time. There was no rushing from one hotel to another, packing and unpacking every day. Our accommodation travelled with us, and every morning there was another beautiful piece of Scotland waiting outside our window.
We also celebrated our wedding anniversary during our journey, which made this trip particularly special for us and gave us memories we will treasure.
If you love Scotland and enjoy travelling independently, we would certainly recommend experiencing the Caledonian Canal with Le Boat. It is not simply a boating holiday; it is a wonderfully peaceful way of becoming part of the landscape for a little while.
Scotland has always held a special kind of magic for us. After this journey, we love it even more.

Relaxing holiday on beautiful canal boat
We stayed on the Horizon 4 canal boat as 4 adults and 2 children and it was a beautiful boat. Lots of space and seating areas, nice quality and very clean. We travelled Tannay to Decize over 7nights and it was a beautiful route.
The staff at Le Boat were excellent for arrival and departure and gave lots of useful information along with a briefing of the boat.
It was easy, relaxed sailing and the lock keepers are friendly, professional and very helpful. Very enjoyable holiday.
The perfect family trip
From the moment we arrived to pick up our boat the team were ready to help us get going as soon as possible. The briefing from Jason was perfect, very clear and he kept things simple for us and got the kids involved. The boat itslef was perfect, plenty of space for the five of us and had everything we needed. Dropping the boat back and checkout was seamless and again the team were on hand to help us. Would highly recommend for a family getaway with no distractions and proper quality family time guaranteed. We will be back!
A short trip from Messac-Guipry
Only a short trip from Messac-Guipry (4 nights) on a Caprice but really enjoyed the trip down to Rieux and back. Very helpful staff – ask about a shopping lift back from the supermarket if you dont arrive by car! Lots of kingfishers, herons and a beaver near Redon. Redon marina very helpful for an overnight stop.

An international company whom I feel comfortable with. I’ve been boating with them here in Ireland and France and I look forward to boating further afield with Le Boat.

The route from Migennes to Tannay is beautiful and rural. The villages we visited were auuthentic and worth visiting. Each one had a great boulangerie. Some of the places where we tied up were a little larger and offered historical and cultural landmarks to visit. As it was very warm we found great places to swim. Not in the canal but in the river L’yonne which was never far away. We also visited the home of Cremant, Les Caves Bailly Lapierre. Very worthwhile to taste and buy this delicious bubbly. 49 locks kept us busy but great places to meet other “boaters” and lockkeepers.

Hiring from LeBoat in Chertsey is a good location for visiting the whole of the non-tidal Thames. The staff are friendly and helpful and you get all the information you need, and we had a great demonstration and explanation of the boat. I have given five stars because we had a lovely holiday but novice boaters should note it might be awkward to find your way back into the marina at the end of your trip. Unlike LeBoat’s other base at Benson, which is on the Thames itself, the Chertsey base is on a backwater, which is a bit of an adventure in itself. The boats seem to be well maintained and any problems are swiftly dealt with by the LeBoat team, whatever the time.

Benson is a great place to pick up your boat and head off either towards Oxford or down stream towards the beautiful Marlow and Henley or as far as you like towards Windsor and on.
The boat was clean and ready to go. This was not our first trip although the Elegance18 boat was new to us.

Jarnac/Jarnac for 7 nights was perfect. The staff at the Jarnac location are amazing!!! Customer service abounds and they are so friendly and welcoming. The boat was in perfect condition and spotless. We ended up spending a few nights in Saintes and doing day trips to La Rochelle and Royan. The train station is an easy walk and the trains go everywhere in the region. The locks were easy and fun.

Port Cassafière was a perfect starting point for our trip. The staff there was very helpful in getting us set up. We had to wait a little bit, but they have a lovely patio, and it was very scenic in the French countryside, so it was enjoyable.

Our Le Boat Horizon 4 houseboat was very comfortable for 4 adults sailing the Trent-Severn Waterway. Having 4 bathrooms was the best, with one in each cabin. We prepared most of our meals on the rooftop grill, conveniently located next to the rooftop dining table.

We originally booked the Horizon class, but upon closer inspection of the cabins on the website decided to switch to this boat and we were VERY grateful we did! For two couples this boat can’t be beat. The staterooms are huge. Walk around beds, tons of storage and individual AC controls. The boat was in spectacular condition. It looked like a brand new boat inside. Everything worked perfectly. We loved the BBQ on the top deck and cooked some incredible food up there. We are chefs and the kitchen had everything we needs and more. The dishes/pans/etc were great quality. The boat handled well and we easy to dock. If you want space and the feeling of a private yacht, pick this one!
