We've always been happy with Emerald Star and always been happy with our boat. The staff have always been absolutely excellent, from booking to check in to check out. We've never had a hidden charge or an excessive fuel bill. They're just nice people to deal with. A very nice little boat for four guys. It's not the newest boat in the fleet but it's very reasonably priced and while cosy, not at all cramped. We took it up the Shannon Erne waterway and it was perfect where a larger boat would have been a little more unwieldy in the narrow confines of the canal. There's no tv, which is great as that's the first thing we stow away when we get aboard.

Check in very slow with only one staff member on desk. Shower / toilet area in admin building too small and not as clean as expected. Old boat, but very clean and no complaint overall.

Once at the base in Portumna, we received great customer service. On the website, it would be helpful to know possible ways to easily travel directly to Portumna. We took a train to Galway thinking there was a bus to Portumna. Once in Galway, we found out that was not the case and we had to rent a car to avoid a 5-6 hour bus ride. Other customers had taken the train but got off at a different stop and took a taxi. The boat was dated but clean. We understand the speed being controlled for non-boaters but for experienced boaters it was sometimes frustrating not to have the power needed for the current, especially in Athlone.

The young man you gave me tuition on the boat was excellent and a very nice man. I know I got the boat at a bargain, but the next time if I was to do the same I would want a boat with out leaks, there were 7 leaks in windows from the rain. And the pump toilet in main cabin leaked also. Old boat needs work. as discussed above.

Whilst I know that that this kind of holiday is not going to be cheap, I would have hoped for a little more give for the money overall. I found the "app" almost useless, the map/chart not the easiest to follow and the service overall only so so. This should be sold as more of an adventure or some such thing. Myself and my wife had been on an Emerald star holiday before. This time we were bringing our daughter on the trip prior to heading back to school, she did enjoy it I have to say. I hve summed it all up in the introduction.
