Caledonian Canal – Excellent
We had a fantastic week cruising the Caledonian Canal. Le Boat at Laggan were great, they gave us all the information needed, including pre arrival info & everything including check out was extremely well organised. The scenery is amazing here & we were blessed (most of the time) with sunny, clear weather. Being newbies at boating we were a bit nervous about negotiating locks for the first time, but we found the other boaters on the canal were very friendly and keen to help, the lock keepers were also amazing and made sure we were looked after. It has been a long time dream to tour the Caledonian Canal & this trip fully lived up to expectations.

A wonderful boat!
The boat was exceptionally well equipped and clean. The staff were all super friendly and gave us helpful tips before our trip. We tried it out with a three night trip and wished we had booked a longer 7 night trip. Next year!

Rideau Canal South
Our Le Boat experience was great. From the online booking to on site orientation everything went smoothly. Learning to navigate and drive the boat was relatively easy, there was a learning curve to reading the maps in the more open waters, binoculars are a must to have. Everywhere we went people were helpful and welcoming and the sights were outstanding. We will return.

I am very pleased with Le Boat
I am very pleased with Le Boat. In the past I have chartered three times in France with a competitor. Le Boat was quick to respond to my questions, and offered me the itinerary I wanted on the Canal du MIDI. It also has very good reviews on the condition of its boats.

The trip from Smiths Falls down to Jones Falls
The trip from Smiths Falls down to Jones Falls was fabulous. We had accurate and useful charts and a GPS for navigation. That proved more helpful than usual since the water level was down about 18” due to the lack of rain. Steering one of the Horizon boats takes a little getting use to, but we began to understand each other a few locks into the trip. We had fun going through the locks and the scenery along the canal and in the lakes was great. The Le Boat group at Smiths Falls were excellent and very helpful. I recommend the trip to anyone willing to pilot a boat through the canals and lakes.

Messing about on the river
I am sure that other boat rent companies are good but I cannot fault Le Boat. We had a really good week traveling on the Thames from Chertsey to Benson.
This type of vacation needs good weather to be a success so, in a way, you need to be lucky.

Great way to spend a week on the water
Great way to spend a week on the water. This was our 7th rental with LeBoat, but the first one on the Trent-Severn Waterway. Our previous rentals were on the Rideau system. The Trent has many more locks (and larger ones, taking longer to transit).
For navigation, we used IBoating that provide a better view of the area than the plotter provided on the boat.

First time on a self-drive river boat…
First time on a self-drive river boat for a family of 4 from the UK. We were scared..but the team at Le Boat soon had us navigating our boat through locks with ease. They were super friendly and very helpful. They also gave us a lift to and from the local supermarket to pick up supplies! The boat was beautifully clean and very well equipped. The water tank was large and easy to fill, it kept us in more water than we could possibly use for a few days. Excellent information from the team at Le Boat made sure that we visited some beautiful French towns and villages. Merci beaucoup Le Boat!

Our first boating holiday…
And it was great!
We arrived early at the Migennes base, which helped a bit as the base is very busy on Saturdays.
Said and Ana was fantastic! Super friendly, super helpful and just a joy to be around.
The boat we had showed it age a bit, but it was absolutely great for our needs.
This is a fantastic active family holiday. Dump your mobiles and social media, and just be outside a bit. Locks keep you busy, but they get easier every time.

We took the Le Boat tour in Belgium from June…
We took the Le Boat tour in Belgium from June to July 2024. Rik from Westhoek Marina at Nieuwpoort was an exceptional guide. He provided us with many useful travel tips, and we greatly appreciated the staff members’ helpfulness and positive attitude. When one of our suitcase wheels broke, Rik even went out of his way to drop us off at the Nieuwpoort bus and tram station. We loved every little town (especially Bruges and Ghent, but Diksmuide and Ieper were also interesting and beautiful in their own way. We completed both Route 1 and Route 2. Thanks to the Belgium team—this was such a great holiday!

This was our first Le Boat experience. Awesome choice and…
This was our first Le Boat experience. Awesome choice and so glad we did it. Apart from the adrenalin to ensure you do things correctly, to the calm and relaxed hours on the canal. Our family was excited about all the planning, boating and exploring small towns like Edam, Zaanse Schaans and Maarssen on foot, bike and sometimes just on the deck! As a first time Le Boater, the staff made it easy and explained all the detail and operations (p.s. be sure to take notes), that helped us on our way. By day 2 you definitely feel more comfortable with all the bridges, signals, sluices and mooring. This was a unforgettable family vacation and we will surely tdo this again when opportunity presents itself.

Everyone at St Jean de Losne were above and beyond nice and helpful. They were going to call us a cab when we arrived in St Jean by train but a staff member just came and picked us up! The gentleman that showed us around the boat was excellent as well. In Branges, the women helping us check out was so nice and professional, can’t speak highly enough of her. The other staff in Branges were, oddly, not helpful. It’s traditional in any dockside setting to help those in need of a hand when coming into dock, even if aren’t working but just people sharing the dock. These guys (who are employed by Le Boat) just sat smiling as we came in to an unfamiliar harbor in the pouring rain and didn’t lift a hand to help. Then told us, after we were tied up that we’d tied up in the wrong place and told us to move. As I said, very odd considering how great everyone else from Le Boat was with us on our trip.
Already thinking about our next trip with Le Boat – Highly recommended!

A magical holiday! I will definitely do it again if I can. Le Boat were excellent on all levels. Efficient and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The consultant I booked through was outstanding, as were the staff at the base (Le Mas d’Agenais). They attended to all our queries and were pleasant and helpful. They also arranged a taxi for us to get from Marmande to the base which was a great help. The base is a beautiful spot on the canal and very organised. I highly recommend them. Thank you for the incredible trip and service.

The Town Star (Dungloe) was a bit tired and charter-worn,…
The Town Star (Dungloe) was a bit tired and charter-worn, but we had selected a ‘budget’ boat and so it was what we expected. Everything worked perfectly.
The Town Star is a little short on power. River levels were high and as our trip was northbound we were plugging quite strong currents in places. At 2000 rpm we could barely manage 3 knots over ground (GPS) at times. Best speed with half a gale of wind behind us 5.2 knots.
Our trip was affected by Coronavirus restrictions (and fears) but of course this was expected and outside the control of Le Boat. We had to do Portumna – Athlone in one leg on the first day (9.5 hours) because no stops were permitted next to the Offaly border. North of Athlone restrictions were still evident. We were moved on from Quigley’s Marina which was closed to non permit holders.
Despite these restrictions we had an enjoyable cruise with some lovely weather either side of Storm Elllen.
